Recruitment Policy

1. Starz Diving coaches, parents, administrators, or any other Starz Diving representatives do not recruit divers from other U.S. Diving programs. Any diver currently enrolled in another program with interest in joining the Starz will have to attain the consent of his or her diving coach before any discussion or arrangements can be made for the athlete to join the Starz. Also, interest in and contact with the Starz must be initiated by the family involved without any external coercion.

2. Starz Diving coaches do not recruit divers from other Starz Diving coaches/programs. Transfer of athletes between satellites is possible on a case-by-case scenario, such as a change of address situation or a conflict of training schedules offered, ect. However, such a transfer or a situation that merits a transfer shall not be coerced or initiated by an Starz Diving coach.

3. During club activities that are designed to promote the Starz Diving or attain new athletes for the Starz Diving, coaches shall work together to interest new members for all available programs. From this perspective coaches are to share information about all the training locations and encourage the potential athletes to train at a location that is geographically most suitable to their participation in the program. The selection process, therefore, is geographic, not subjective. Should the parents of Starz divers choose to have their athlete train at a Starz facility other than one available in their home town or other than the program that is the closest to their home town for their own reasons of convenience, and those reasons were not coerced by any coaches of the Starz, then the club will support, but not encourage that decision.

4. Because the satellite teams of the Starz act directly as a feeder system for the Indianapolis National Training Center, the staff of the NTC does select satellite team divers to train in he NTC. Satellite team coaches may also recommend satellite team divers to train in the NTC. This concept is the central function of our satellite system and is not considered recruiting. Furthermore, the coaches of the NTC may appoint divers to the satellite team that trains at the IUPUI Natatorium on a temporary basis in preparation for a transfer to the NTC training groups.

Coaches' Code of Conduct

1. Coaches shall adhere to the principles of behavior and instruction as defined by the Starz Diving Book of Protocol and Procedure.

2. Coaches shall act in a manner that promotes goodwill to the athletes and families that have a vested interest and trust in the program, the administration that has offered the facility for use, and the community that is represented by the actions of the diving coach assigned to that cooperative.

3. Coaches shall make no statements to the press that would implicate ill will or negative publicity for the program that coach represents or any other diving program, the community or administration for which that coach is in service or any other community or administration, or the sport of diving in general.

4. Coaches are to behave respectfully, responsibly, professionally, and with prudence in their instruction of diving and in dealing with the affairs that surround the instruction of diving.

5. Coaches are to make reasonable efforts at communicating the goals and vision of the club to the parents, athletes, and administrations involved as the team grows and develops.

6. Coaches shall establish a positive learning environment in their practice sessions that forbids any level of cussing, name calling, negative self-talk, or inappropriate language that may threaten the rights of the students to perform in a comfortable, friendly, and positive atmosphere.

7. Coaches are to protect the safely of the athlete with clear instructions and constant vigilance without distraction in directing the movements of the athletes during workouts.

8. Coaches are to engage in an inspired effort to better the athletes involved in the Starz Diving diving program as divers and as individuals, provided that necessary external support services are in place.

Alcohol and Tobacco Protocol for Coaches

1. Coaches are not to use tobacco products or drink alcohol beverages in the clear presence of Starz Diving athletes younger than 18 years of age.

2. Coaches are to report any evidence of alcohol or tobacco use by any Starz Diving athletes younger than legal age to Head Coach John Wingfield and the athlete's parents if the athlete is younger than 18 years of age.

3. Coaches are to take no part directly or indirectly in providing opportunity for Starz Diving divers, other teams' divers, or any people younger than legal age to participate in the use of alcohol or tobacco products.

4. An infraction of the above policies may result in legal action against the coach and may be grounds for permanent dismissal from the Starz Diving staff.
