Starz Return From England Written By: Starz Diving Club
Special Congratulations to 2 Starz Diving Club members who represented the USA in last week's British National Championships. The Great Britain diving program, heavily organized and government subsidized for several years now in preparation for their hosting of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, is well on their way in a long term development plan for their junior athletes. The organization proved a very worthy adversary in our competitive conquest... as we left our shores to "beat the British" (on their own soil this time!).
Andrew Cramer: Starz Diver at age 5 - 1999... Having performed his career first 10 meter platform contest in his new age group 14-15, Andrew finished in 5th place with highlights that included, at some point throughout the preliminary and final rounds, excellent performances of his stylish back 3 1/2 twister, his back 2 1/2 somersaults pike, and his reverse 2 1/2 somersaults tuck form the 10 meter platform. Andrew also accrued a 6th place finish on the 3 meter event, and a 4th place finish in the Synchro Event with synchro partner Alex Fincher from Texas. This was an awesome performance in Andrew's 4th International USA Diving venture and first time performance in the 14-15 age bracket.
Grace Fulwider: Starz Diver at age 3 - 2001... Experiencing her first opportunity to represent the USA internationally - at age 10, Grace struggled to "put it together" in competition in the 1 meter and 3 meter springboard events. She prepared and rehearsed well, yet performed terribly when the competition bell rang! Perhaps this would have been a good time to give up? Not as far as Grace was concerned. Grace awoke on the final day of competition to first ask her mother, "what are we expected to wear on the award's stand?" Knowing that only the top 3 medallists are recognized on the awards stand and that she hadn't been anywhere near this level of performance in her previous events, Grace again stepped up to the plate. She performed a very accurate list, slightly missing only two dives, and destroying most of her list to achieve her first international medal - a Bronze award - finishing only 3 points out of first place... Grace participated in her first international medal winners ceremony - and she happened to be the only athlete in the event properly dressed for the occasion!
Great job Andrew and Grace! - Thank you for representing the USA and the Starz Diving Club with success and honor at this year's British National Championships!!!
