The Starz Diving Club Earns 2nd Place Finish at Spring Region 4 – Louisville Kentucky - 08
The Starz Diving was represented at the Region 4 Championships in Louisville Kentucky over the weekend by 9 divers from the Noblesville and Pendleton Heights Satellites. Coaches Doug Hartley (Noblesville) and Kevin Rockhill (Pendleton) lead the team that earned 12 of 17 possible qualifying spots for the Junior Spring East Nationals.
Morgan Meixner (Noblesville) earned high point honors winning both the 1 meter and 3 meter 11 and under events. Meixner will be joined in her age group at Nationals by Starz Teammate Brooke Madden (Pendleton) who finished 3rd on 3 meter and 4th on 1 meter in her first ever US Diving Regional event.
Tyler Sedam (Noblesville) made a last minute decision to attend the event and earned 2nd place honors in the 11 and under 1 meter event. Sedam joined the group of divers after learning 4 dives in 2 days to provide additional support to his team in an attempt to bring home the Region 4 title. He showed tremendous team spirit and determination in his efforts.
Caitlin Dressler (Pendleton) earned two additional National qualifying spots with 4th place finishes on both the 1 and 3 meter events. Dressler showed dedication and determination through out the competition as she competed with injury. In an effort to support her team and qualify for Nationals, Dressler modified her dive list and blocked out the pain to put together an amazing performance.
Katie Bittner (Noblesville) earned qualifying spots on both 1 meter and 3 meter in the 14-15 age group. Bittner put together a gutsy performance and earned qualifying spots with a 6th place finish on 1 meter and 5th place finish on 3 meter.
Kate Hillman (Pendleton) picked up a qualifying spot on the 3 meter, finishing 4th in the 16-18 age group after aging up this spring. Hillman finished 7th on the 1 meter event falling just 8 points short of the 6th place qualifying spot. Hillman’s performance on 3 meter was 22 points better then the present IHSAA State Champion in this event.
Katrina Kain (Pendleton) finished 17th on 1 meter after experiencing a contact malfunction in the middle of an approach. Unable to see properly, she took a balk on the dive. As fate would have it, while performing the same dive on 3 meter, a diver crashed on the 1 meter in the middle of Kain’s approach. The ensuing crowd reaction was enough to startle Kain and lead to less then desired results for the dive. Kain finished 15th on the 3 meter, turning in two very impressive performances.
Cara Lewis (Noblesville) competed in the 16-18 girls 1 meter, her first ever US Diving JO experience. Lewis completed the event in 22nd position after overcoming the nervous tensions that accompany many divers in their first meets. Lewis stepped up during the competition and put together one very impressive list of dives missing only one dive in the event.
Ryland Ridenour (Noblesville) followed up his IHSAA State Runner up honor with a 2nd place finish on 1 meter and a 3rd place finish on 3 meter in the 16-18 boys age group earning the final two qualifying spots for the Starz Diving Club in the meet.
Starz Diving Club finished the Region 4 Championships in 2nd place. Next stop for the Noblesville and Pendleton Satellites will be the East Nationals in Rockville, MD April 25-27.
