Clay's diving pursuit continues

Hamilton Southeastern senior Sarah Clay headlines 23 athletes from the Indianapolis area who will compete in high school girls diving regionals at three sites today.

The area athletes will compete at Hamilton Southeastern, Brownsburg and Bloomington North. A fourth site will be at Penn. Each regional starts at 6 p.m.

Clay, who finished seventh in last year's state meet, totaled 500.50 points in winning the Fishers Sectional. She tops the regional field at Hamilton Southeastern and will be joined by Pendleton Heights senior Krissy Riley (494.60), Fishers sophomore Gail Susdorf (456.00), Hamilton Southeastern junior Christina Beyerl (431.70) and Noblesville sophomore Megan Potee (416.20) in that competition.

Danville senior Whitney Adams is the top seed at Brownsburg after posting a 445.20 score in the Avon Sectional. Other divers there include North Central senior Ellis Walters (408.30), Plainfield junior Jonna Sprout (354.15), Ben Davis junior Faith O'Malley (350.25), North Central sophomore Meghan Wenzel (347.70) and Western Boone senior Mikada Gregg (335.65).

Center Grove junior Anna Wimmenauer, who won the Franklin Sectional with a 363.85 score, is among the front-runners at Bloomington North. South Bend St. Joseph's senior Gabriella Agostino scored 453.50 points in the South Bend Riley Sectional and is seeded first at Penn.

The top eight finishers at each regional will advance to the preliminary round of the girls swimming and diving state finals at IUPUI.

Swimming prelims are 6 p.m. Friday, and diving prelims are at 9 a.m. Saturday. Event finals begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
