Starz Shine Bright in IHSAA Boys Championship Meets Written By: Staff Writer
The Starz presence will be felt at this year’s IHSAA Boys State Finals with 12 of our divers making it on to the State Finals. With 15 of the 20 divers in the HSE Regional divers coming from the Starz Program, there was quite the battle to get into the finals and seven (7) divers coming out of the HSE Regional are from our program in that Regional.
Going into the State Finals, Caleb Dunnichay is the top seeded diver entering the event with a regional score of 508.85 from Tuesday night. David Piercy (no longer with Starz Diving), Josh Blackwell, Tyler Clingerman, and Cameron Hansbarger follow with the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th seeds. Cory Noggle and Kurt Barttrum round out the top ten spots with the 8th and 9th place seeds respectively. Also making the big show are Kurt Hansbarger (13th), Nick Swift (16th), Matt Vieke (20th), Billy Pennington (24th), and Rylan Ridenour (29th).
Congratulations to all the Starz divers who participated in the Regional meets. Evan Crowder (HSE), Robbie Trahin (HSE), Mitchell Gauger (HSE), Chris Hall (HSE), Andrew Gray (HSE), Brent Bowman (HSE), Matt Riefler (HSE), Sam Souders (HSE), Chris Wells (Mishiwaka), Jeremy Whited (ZION), Kevin Long (ZION), and Michael Barr (ZION) all took part in their respective Regional Meets.
The following Starz Divers represented well at the sectional level. Josh Davis, Casey Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Ingram Cade, Bartt Engelhardt, Jeff Henstchel, Mathias Timberman, Stephan Bohanan, Kurtis Jameson, Alex Green, Korey Schrock, Nick Averitt, Bryan Camden, Drew Moorman, Caleb Pederson, Ken Maloney, Bradley Wilkinson, Tyler Newby, And Ross Dreher.
Competitive battles took place at the sectionals such as the battle to the last dive between Bartt Engelhart and Andrew Gray at the HSE sectional. All day these two battled it out for that final spot to get into the Regional. While only one could go, they where both deserving and what took place after the final dive and on the medal stand showed just what Starz Diving is all about. Bartt, though disappointed, offered his congratulations and well wishes as Andrew continued on to the Regional. He was also on hand at the HSE Regional with his head held high and very supportive of his fellow Starz Divers.
Though all the excitement and disappointments of the past few days, one thing shines bright. Starz Diving is about more then simply winning the medals. It is about being the best you can be both on the boards and off.
Good Luck to all the Starz Divers this weekend at IUPUI. May all your dives fly high and entries be clean. We are proud of each and every one of you as you are all Champions.
