Greenwood's Mitch Richeson and teammate Troy Dumais finished fourth today in the 3-meter synchronized diving event of the aquatics World Championships at Melbourne, Australia.
Two 14-year-olds who train in Indianapolis, Mary Beth Dunnichay and Haley Ishimatsu, were fifth in the women's 10-meter synchro event. Dunnichay is from Elwood and Ishimatsu from Seal Beach, Calif.
China won gold medals in both events.
Dumais and Richeson missed the bronze medal by three-tenths of a point. They finished behind the third-place German team of Tobias Schellenberg and Andreas Weis.
Despite not earning a medal, Dumais and Richeson secured the U.S. a spot in the 3-meter synchro competition for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The top three teams (excluding China, which receives an automatic bid as the host) earned spots for their countries.
