Chris Giant - 45 + year old Starz diver places top 10 in the world! Written By: Fort Wayne Southside Starz
Chris Giant, Fort Wayne Starz Diver under the instruction of Coach Dave Keener, represented the Starz and USA Diving in August at the FINA World Masters Dive Championships in San Francisco (at Stanford University - what a facility!!!!)
Chris placed 9th in the world in the 1 meter event! Awesome job, Chris… way to represent!
HEAR HER STORY!!!
“I had a great meet on 1M and placed 9th!! I was thrilled! I did OK on 3M (not my event - I never practice it). I even tried a few dives on the 3M and 5M towers during the training day because a friend was trying to talk me into entering tower.
I thought I needed to be smart and safe and not compete platform because I was rushing to learn the six dives required to compete. ( I could not learn a 6th dive!) I had only ever just jumped off all the towers in Indy in the early 1980's. To actually do dives was quite the rush for this almost 50 yr old girl!
The meet was huge with 9 days of swimming, 4 days of diving, 5 days of synchronized swimming, and 4 days of water polo. The meet was really something. There were almost 200 total divers mostly from Europe and N America. There were 30 swimmers to every one diver in attendance! Luckily swimming was all over before we even started to have practice days. So we did not have to deal with any of those large numbers of athletes running around everywhere! It's the first time in 10 years that the FINA World meet has been held in the US.”
