Dryland training is an integrated and essential part of dive preparation for many of the athletes in the Regional Training Program and the Starz Diving.
The Dryland Training Center is located at the old Central State Hospital, near the corner of Washington and Warman. The center consists of two trampolines with overhead spotting rigs, four dry boards with overhead spotting rigs, floor exercise mat, weight room and many other features necessary for the conditioning and training of divers.
While dryland training can help overcome limited pool availability, it also yields better results as a supplement to diving.
Dryland training offers the following advantages:
-
more intimate and focused coaching opportunities
-
better concentration, mental comparisons of repetitions, and quicker corrections due to reduced wait time between actions
-
more effective fear management due to spotting rig
-
greater overall enthusiasm due to the variety of exercises dryland training provides
Dryland Training Methods:
-
Dryland Board

This apparatus is a diving board on a stand over a foam landing pit. The dryland board is the best piece of equipment for drills on boardwork, fear-inducing dives and spotting (seeing) skills. The dryland board is the most dive-specific piece of equipment besides the diving board over water.
- Trampoline

The trampoline is an effective and fun way to develop kinesthetic awareness, spatial orientation, spotting (seeing) technique, and conditioning. The trampoline offers an opportunity for a high repetition of skills in a very short amount of time. These qualities are achieved through beltwork, specific drills, and the occasional game.
Tumbling Tumbling is tremendous for developing explosive strength and a positive self-image.
- Platform Station
Our simulated platform stations with harness and belt and landing mats offer a unique opportunity for athletes to learn an entire list of platform dives and lead up skills without having to worry about the stress of doing these skills for the first time on actual high-diving platforms.
- Spotting Belt
Overhead spotting for the dryland board, trampoline, platform, and tumbling area is the most secure and effective way to instruct the divers on new skills and stay out of harm's way. Lateral belt and hand spotting can also be useful.
